What have we been working on, linked to our Communication and Language Curriculum?

2024-2025

Targets from School Development Plan:

To take part in the EFF’s research project for ‘Talking Time’, including:

  • To establish a study group and leads for the programme
  • To develop the programme in line with the expectations
  • To ensure assessments are in line with expectations

Progress towards targets:

  • Developed a structure of leads to take part in the group, alongside the CL lead.
  • Initial consent forms have been sent to parents, returned and assessments of children have been completed.
  • Initial observations of the two leads, with children, who consented, have taken place.
  • The external mentor has visited site, met the team and completed a tour of the school.
  • The CL lead has worked with the consent forms, and class teacher and together, they have developed study groups to begin in the Spring Term 2025.
  • Talking Time sessions begun in January 2025 and the CL subject leader is part of this research project, taking the lead in organising resources, groups and timetables.
  • The CL lead has developed the sensory room into a multi-purpose room, so that it can be used as a nurture room also; this is where talking time takes place.
  • Children are happy in the groups and the environment suits them well.
  • An action plan has been developed, alongside the SLT, to remove the focus of CL from the School Development Plan and make it running progression, led by the CL Lead.
  • This will be reviewed termly, to ensure time is given in the school day to stay on top of work load and to make sure the subject remains a priority – at the next meeting the targets above will reflect the CL Action Plan.
  • The communication and language subject leader has completed the questionnaire linked to success and gaps.
  • The HT has reviewed this alongside the assessment data, with the subject leader.
