Reports to Governors
What have we been working on, linked to our Personal, Social and Emotional Curriculum?
2024-2025
Targets from School Development Plan:
To review, enhance and further develop the behaviour and safety curriculum, including:
- To develop a safety curriculum which is concise and age appropriate and enhances the current safety days the school promotes
- To involve parents and develop their confidence in this area also
- To involve children to gain a baseline of where children’s knowledge and skills are
Progress towards targets:
- The subject leader has reviewed the current elements of safety teaching that the school has in its curriculum.
- A review and research of what safety is important for young children, has taken place, with key elements noted, including water safety, fire safety, online safety, body safety, stranger danger, road safety, kitchen safety etc.
- A survey has been drafted and shared with parents to explore what elements they would like their young child taught about, so that we can incorporate trends or themes, at the right point of time.
- There has been a handover from the previous PSED lead to a new PSED lead, due to maternity leave.
- Meetings have taken place to support the handover, including going through the different elements of monitoring, including looking at the baseline and autumn data, observing children who are not on track and carrying out learning walks in classes to explore what is on offer for PSED during ChiL.
- Family workers are supporting parents, through 1:1 workshops for boundaries, routines and behaviour, so that consistency between home and school is clear.
- The PSED lead has observed children and worked with the older children in the school, on how they keep themselves safe, including saying ‘no, stop, I don’t like it’, seeking help from adults and talking to their friends.
- The lead has also reviewed the responses from the parents and has ensured this has been past on to the new PSED lead to explore this further, when developing the curriculum in the summer term.
- The school has continued with the development of the behaviour and safety curriculum and it is ready to roll out in September 2025.
