Reports to Governors
What have we been working on, linked to our Literacy Curriculum?
2024-2025
Targets from School Development Plan:
To review the books and texts the school has to ensure a good coverage of age appropriate texts and cross curriculum links, including:
- To review and audit the library books available in the school
- To audit and update class book boxes, develop a core set of books for each age band
- To audit and update the story sacks accordingly to match the core books
Progress towards targets:
- The Literacy Lead and Headteacher have reviewed the Pie Corbett reading spine and agreed with the SLT a set of core books at each stage of education with us.
- These have been purchased and are available throughout the year in the classrooms.
- The Literacy Lead, in partnership with the CL lead, has audited the story sacks; these are all very much out of date and so the subject lead has started from scratch, creating story sacks, linked to the new core books that have been agreed.
- To enhance this further, a tonie has been purchased, with core books, so that stories can be told in different way.
- The literacy lead organised a book sale, in line with World Book Day, to sell some of the good quality books, that are too high for our children.
- This was very successful; during the event, a parent suggested using an app to sell the rest and this has been actioned also.
- The EAL learning mentor did try to purchase EAL books, however these appear to out of stock for some time. Stock is being monitored.
- The Literacy subject leader has completed a number of monitoring activities this year, including class observations, training sessions and learning walks, as well as data analysis.
- A review of the Lift off to Language intervention in the school and how this impacts children and supports them back into main adult led sessions is planned for the summer term.
- An initial plan has been completed, focusing on observations and data analysis completed, as well as parental voice around library time and core books for topics and stories.
