Curriculum

At Hart Hill Nursery School we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. There are seven areas of the curriculum which we use to both assess the children and plan next steps from. These include:

The Prime Areas

Personal, social and emotional development

Communication and Language

Physical Development

The Specific Areas

Literacy

Mathematical development

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

We believe in ensuring that your child feels safe and secure in school and that in order to be ready to learn the children need to have a high level of self-confidence and wellbeing. To ensure that we support each child with this each settling in period is tailored to needs of each individual family.

Children are encouraged to take part in range of activities throughout their session and throughout the week with us. These activities include a high amount of child initiated play and learning which is also enhanced with the level of engagement with adults joining their play to inject learning through play. There are times were specific topics and objectives are taught in small group sessions, these are tailored to the need of the group and encourage children to attend and take part in activities that they may not be as keen to try the first time.

We assess the children continuously and report to you regularly on your child attainment and the progress they have made with us. We also use these informal assessments to plan the children’s next step and to see key interests and themes that arise to ensure the love of learning continues.
