Learning Through Play

‘Children have a right to play. Play, both indoors and outdoors, makes a powerful contribution to children’s wellbeing, development and learning.’

Birth to Five Matters 2021

At Hart Hill Nursery School, we believe in learning through play. We ensure that all children have something in the classroom that makes them feel safe, secure and comfortable in their environment.

We firmly believe that Hart Hill is the children’s nursery. With this in mind everything that is available to the children is at their level and skilfully planned and displayed to give the impression that they have ‘free play’.  This free play is actually a highly planned and structured environment, which promotes learning specific skills and imparting knowledge at key times of the school year. All resources are clearly labelled with both photographs and text to support children to be independent learners.

We are very proud of the experienced staff that we have working at our nursery. They are very skilled at observing and assessing children and then joining their play to add further learning and challenge to the experience. Staff plan with specific next steps for children and are therefore fully aware of what each child needs support with in order to move onto the stage of their development. The children will be learning throughout their day with us, without even realising it!

Learning to Play: Playing to Learn!

We are committed to the safety and welfare of all our children and follow guidelines and procedures set out by Luton Borough Council’s Safeguarding Children Board. Our Safeguarding Children policy is available for you to read along with all the other policies and procedures. If we have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing we will always talk to you. Equally, if you feel you need help or support with your child or family we are always happy to help you.
