Termly Events

Although we are flexible enough to adapt our provision to children's current passions and interests, there are some events within the complex that happen every year.

In the Autumn term we usually take all the children for a local walk to look for evidence of the changing seasons. Our main focus is settling all the new children and families. The main festivals for the autumn are Harvest, Divali, Eid and Christmas, all of which we celebrate. Harvest gifts are taken to the local church. Bonfire night is a focus for a week or so.

We usually look at colour and light with children bringing artifacts from home to share and discuss. Parents help with cooking and mendhi patterns. At the end of term we visit the Arndale Centre to look at decorations and meet Father Christmas. Children take part in a nativity before a Christmas party for all at the end of term.

After Christmas we focus on stories, again linking to growth, seasons and change.

Pancakes are cooked, Chinese food is eaten and their new year celebrated with a parade led by a dragon! Children hunt for eggs and may wear an Easter bonnet. We make cards for Mothering Sunday and Easter, and make Easter nests.

The main family event of the summer term is the Summer Fete, usually on a Saturday in June or July. We work with the children on growth water and change, dominated by incubating and hatching up to 20 Indian runner ducklings! All the children visit Wigmore Library for a story and play session and to learn more about the library service. At the end of term we have visits for the children who are leaving, usually to a farm, zoo or other place of interest.
