Safeguarding Children
Staff take their responsibilities for the safety and welfare of all the children very seriously. We have a legal duty to work with other agencies to ensure that all children are cared for appropriately and to report any concerns we have.
For all children and families we are able to offer support and guidance at early stages of need. This can include any problems facing you that can affect your children directly or indirectly. If we can't help we will be able to advise an agency that can.
We have very strong links with all family support agencies in Luton including health teams, health visitors, social services, housing, dental health, childminders and foster carers. Part of our Family Worker's role is to support families with any problems. She can arrange a home visit or a series of visits to help where possible.
If you need help or advice just ask the headteacher or family worker, we will do all we can for you. We are able to help all families who live in the area, even if your child does not attend Nursery or the Children's Centre.
If we have any concerns about the welfare or wellbeing of a child we will speak to the parent / carer in the first instance. Referrals are rarely made to another agency without the knowledge of the parents.
There are various strategies in place to ensure your child's safety and security while they are here:
- All staff have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check. On rare occasions we have staff working before their CRB is processed and these staff are checked against List 99 and are never alone with children.
- All staff employed from July 2010 will be registered with the Independent Safeguarding Authority and gradually all existing staff will become registered.
- We have a policy for Safeguarding Children which is updated annually so that all staff are aware of the procedures to follow.
- Staff appointment procedures follow Luton Borough Council's procedures and the Chair of Governors and Headteacher have a qualification for recruiting staff within safeguarding guidelines.
- The grounds are secure and safe.
- All visitors are accompanied while on site and contractors have CRB clearance.
- We aim to support families when difficulties arise and believe that early intervention can help in a very positive way.
- The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Independent Safeguarding Authority. (On all job descriptions).
